Jewish and single in 2014 – what are your options?

Are you Jewish and single? Do you feel like it’s time you had a life partner, but you have no idea how to go about it? Don’t worry, we’re here to help.   We think you have a few options to try and find your special person….

Online dating

There are very many online dating options specifically targeted at Jewish singles.  They are easy to use from the comfort of your sofa, and you can spend many pleasant hours clicking on people you find attractive and hoping they reply.

If you are a serial dater, this could be paradise…. So many people, so little time.  You can also set up dates in other countries so you can date on holiday or while away on business.

But there’s also a downside.  Looking for someone special from an online catalogue can be a time-consuming, not to mention soul-destroying, exercise.  Some of our clients have lost many years dating in this way, and have nothing to show for it but high credit card bills from hundreds of boring dates.

You may also get tired of seeing the same old faces popping up all the time, not to mention the risk management side of fake profiles and safety issues with who you may be meeting.

Sadly, some married people use these sites to have affairs.  Lastly, there’s a risk of becoming a serial dater with no idea of the type of person you need for a good life together.

Friends & Family

Your family and friends think they know you really well (and maybe they do?).  So, they think they are well-placed to help you find the person with whom you will be spending the rest of your life.  They know your strengths and weaknesses, and they may know who would make a suitable partner.

However, when you get to a certain age, you no longer need your parents organising your playdates; so you may feel resentful at them pressurising you to date someone you are not attracted to, or may not even like.

How many times can you cope with being told you are too fussy or critical? Or – even worse – being sent on multiple dates with people who have random connections to your parents; all because you have set a precedent of being OK with that.

We’ve heard tales of dating and parental pressure leading to unhappy marriages.  Remember, you can say no.

Oh; except if your parents want to send you to us – that’s good advice and you should follow it!

Events, Shabbats and organised holidays with Jewish organisations (see previous blogs)

Well this is very time efficient as you get to meet a bunch of people all at one time.

However, if you go to events in your geographic area you will be meeting the same people just while you are looking a little smarter than usual.

These events don’t leave much time to get to know someone else.   Or you might find yourself attracted to someone but then realise you are not compatible with them once the excitement fades.

However, if you use our services, you will know yourself and what you want so well that you will waste no time on incompatible people and will laser focus on the one for you.
